Cye Cureton

Cye is a tastemaker and creative who represents Detroit, Michigan. She studied music theory, classical choral music, and theatre from childhood through her graduation from Detroit School of Arts High School in 2005. While attending MSU through 2009, she studied theatre, oral interpretation, and behavioral studies. She started performing her poetry and music in Lansing and Detroit and eventually landed her first featured music set in 2011. In January 2012, she founded and managed her band Atoms and Ease who quickly gained popularity for their unapologetic funkiness, energy, and sounds. After a year, they played many local music festivals like Dally In The Alley and African World Festival through their disbandment late 2014. Known for her vibrant hair colors and style, Cye saw a void in the artist community for creative hair and color techniques and founded her natural hair studio, Hair Hut Detroit in 2013. She collaborated with local photographers, accessory lines, and other small businesses and was creative director over a host of visual projects. The projects highlight services offered by HairHut Detroit as well as the services of collaborating businesses. Cye hosted many artist showcases and began to produce music in 2015. In early 2016, she became brand ambassador and feature collaborator for fashion culture brand, Rock City Look Book. Cye’s work has been published and featured in publications such as Rock City Look Book magazine, Grand Trunk Magazine, and The Michigan Chronicle. She founded and hosts her podcast called The Pretty Dope Show, which debuted in early 2016. She released her debut single, SameThing, in August 2016. Cye was announced as the spokesperson and host for an International artist showcase and fashion show called Raw Natural Artists in October 2016.
